Senior Staff Biography - Denise Carlton, Regional Director, Australian Capital Territory

Denise Carlton is the Regional Director of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Office. The key function of the ACT Office is to maximise the effective use of, and access to, official statistics for informed-decision making in and about the ACT. In doing so, the ACT Office works closely with the ACT Government in support of the National Statistical Service (NSS).

Denise has over 20 years experience with the ABS and has worked across four ABS offices in areas such as Labour Statistics, Social Analysis and Reporting, the Measures of Australia's Progress project, and Health and Disability Statistics. She was the director responsible for data quality at the 2006 Census Data Processing Centre, and most recently spent three years in the Office of the Statistician and External Engagement focussing on strategic planning and risk management, statistical policy and legislation, communications and ministerial liaison, international relations, NSS leadership and statistical capability development.

Denise has an Honour Degree in Arts (English Literature and History) from the University of Western Australia, as well as Post Graduate Diplomas in Media Studies and Applied Statistics.
