Supported Accommodation Flag (SAFD)

This variable is new for the 2011 Census. The Supported Accommodation Flag (SAFD) identifies accommodation specified by state and territory bodies or service providers as supported accommodation for persons without a permanent residence.

Dwellings identified as supported accommodation have been matched to corresponding Census dwelling records to verify their address, and only those that can be matched are included in the final counts. The match rate for 2011 has increased marginally from the previous Census to over 90.0%.

Some 'Supported Accommodation' dwellings have been classified in the Census as Non-Private Dwellings such as Boarding House/Private Hotel, and Hostels for the Homeless, etc. This data can be attained by adding both the SAFD and Type of Non-Private Dwelling (NPDD) variables to a table.

More information on SAFD is available in the 2011 Census Dictionary (cat. no. 2901.0).
