Help us wrap up the 2011 Census

26 August 2011 | CO/50

Most of Australia’s 29,000 Census Collectors are wrapping up after more than a month of delivering and collecting Census forms from households around the country.

Head of the Census Population program, Paul Lowe says this year’s Census Collectors have played a key role in planning for Australia’s future.

“Overall, our Collectors have done an outstanding job, often in the face of adverse conditions and difficult circumstances. Collectors are the face of the Census and the backbone of the operation and their hard work has contributed to the success of the 2011 Census,” Mr Lowe says.

Mr Lowe says it’s not too late for people who were in Australia on Census night, Tuesday, 9 August 2011, to get their form back to us and be accurately counted.

“Taking part in the Census is compulsory. If you still have your form, I urge you to mail it back to us or complete it online using eCensus. Call the Census Inquiry Service on 1300 338 776 to order a pre-paid mail back envelope or to obtain the necessary access codes for the eCensus” Mr Lowe adds.

People can also mail their form themselves to:

So far around 30 per cent of the population has chosen to complete the Census online using eCensus.

eCensus remains open until 5 September.

The first results of the Census will be released in June 2012.
