It's fine, you won't be fined

11 August 2011 | CO/46

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is reminding Australians there is still time to accurately complete the 2011 Census of Population and Housing.

Head of the Population Census program, Paul Lowe says households that haven’t yet completed the Census won’t be fined.

“If you haven’t received a Census form or need an eCensus Number, you can request one online at www.abs.gov.au/census,” Mr Lowe says.

Mr Lowe says there is still ample time to join the rest of Australia and shed some light on who we are by completing the Census.

“eCensus remains open, so anyone who was in Australia on Census night, 9 August, but hasn’t completed the Census can do it online at www.census.gov.au,” Mr Lowe adds.

Census Collectors will be returning to households to pick up completed forms until 28 August, so if you chose to fill out a paper form on Census night, please have it ready to give to your Collector when they return.

“Your Census form contains personal, confidential information. You would never leave your bank details unattended on your front step, so please don’t leave your completed Census form,” Mr Lowe adds.

All genuine ABS Census Collectors will be wearing visible photo identification when they collect completed Census forms and carrying highly visible yellow satchels.

Census Collectors will not return to households who completed their Census form online using eCensus.

More information is available online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call the Census Inquiry Service on 1300 338 776.
