2011 Census - one week to go

2 August 2011 | CO/40

There’s only seven days to go until the 2011 Census that marks 100 years of national Census taking in Australia.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will conduct the Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday 9 August to capture an accurate snapshot of Australia and our characteristics.

Head of the Population Census program, Paul Lowe says for the past week, 29,000 Census Collectors have been delivering approximately 14.2 million Census forms to Australia’s 9.8 million households.

“Don’t worry if you haven’t received your Census form yet. Forms will be delivered until Sunday 7 August,” Mr Lowe says.

Everyone in Australia on Census night has two options to accurately complete their Census form-via the traditional paper form or online using eCensus.

Mr Lowe says your Census Collector will provide the information you need to be able to participate in the Census.

“The ABS is expecting 30 per cent of the population will use the eCensus option, a fast, easy and secure alternative to the traditional paper form that is protected by the strongest encryption technology available,” Mr Lowe adds.

Another advantage of using the eCensus is your Collector won’t have to return to your home to collect your form.

More information is available online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call the Census Inquiry Service on 1300 338 776.

Key Census dates:
