Census Inquiry Service - one helpline, a thousand answers

Do you need help negotiating your Census form? Visit www.abs.gov.au/censushelp or call the Census Inquiry Service (CIS) on XXXX XXX XXX.

The CIS also offers a language helpline that caters for the 10 most commonly used languages in Australia other than English (Mandarin, Arabic, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Korean, Persian, Turkish, Spanish, Greek and Russian).

If the CIS is unable to assist a caller in their language they will setup a three-way conversation with the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS).

If you are deaf, hearing or speech impaired the CIS can set up a three-way conversation with the National Relay Service.

The Census form, eCensus envelope and help documentation is also available in other formats including braille, large print and audio. Information is also available in video format.

The CIS is open seven days a week (8.30am – 8.00pm) until 5 September 2011. The Census of Population and Housing in on Tuesday, 9 August 2011.

Key Census dates:

  • 28 July 2011 – eCensus opens to the public.
  • 29 July 2011 – Distribution of Census forms begins.
  • 9 August 2011 – Census night.
  • From 10 August – Collection of Census forms.
  • June 2012 – The first results from the 2011 Census will be released.
