Why are some Census data in DataPacks not mappable?

DataPacks are designed to be used with mapping (GIS) software. Some Census data are not suitable for mapping.

Data for shipping, off-shore and migratory are not mappable:
  • Shipping geographies contain data for people who were enumerated aboard ship in Australian waters. This includes commercial cargo vessels, passenger liners, ocean going passenger/car ferries, and dredges. People enumerated on board commercial vessels between Australian ports were also attributed to Shipping SA1s. Foreign crews on ships were excluded from the Census.
  • Off-shore geographies contain data for people who were enumerated on off-shore oil rigs, drilling platforms and the like. There is one Off-shore SA1 for each state and the Northern Territory. Census data from respondents who completed their Census forms in the Australian Antarctic Territory were coded to an additional Off-shore SA1 in Tasmania.
  • Migratory geographies contain data for people who were enumerated on an overnight journey by train or bus. There is one Migratory SA1 for each state and the Northern Territory.

No usual address

'No usual address' is applicable to community profiles that are based on 'Place of usual residence' – that is, the Basic Community Profile, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples (Indigenous) Profile and the Expanded Community Profile.
'No usual address' is not applicable to Place of Enumeration Profile and the Time Series Profile because these profiles are based on 'Place of enumeration'.

The category 'No usual address' is not mappable.

  10. Boundaries for Australian Drainage Divisions are not designed on a state basis. So there are no figures at state level for this geography.
