Census Inquiry Service – answering your questions

23 July 2014 | WA/66

To coincide with the start of a major Census field test in parts of South Australia and Western Australia, the Census Inquiry Service is open Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm (local time) from today until Friday, 5 September 2014.

The Census Inquiry Service can provide assistance to households selected to participate in the test, including help completing the Census form, and help in a language other than English.

If the Census Inquiry Service is unable to assist a caller in their language they will setup a three-way conversation with the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS).

If you are deaf, hearing or speech impaired the Census Inquiry Service can also set up a three-way conversation via the National Relay Service.

All information provided is kept secure and confidential to the ABS.

Head of the 2016 Population Census, Duncan Young encouraged everyone selected to complete the Census as fully and accurately as possible, and to seek answers if they have any questions.

“Every response helps the ABS to improve its processes and systems so that the next Census is cheaper, easier and produces high quality information,” Mr Young said.

“Anyone needing assistance with participation can call the Inquiry Service and one of our agents will be able to help.

“There is also a wealth of information on our website that will help people complete their Census test online, and about the test in general,” Mr Young added.

Households can opt-out by contacting the Census Inquiry Service or by notifying a Census Field Officer when they visit the household.

To get more information about the Census, visit www.abs.gov.au/census or for assistance call the Census Inquiry Service on 1800 138 756 Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm (local time).
