560 Census Collectors hit the streets of the Mid North Coast

29 July 2011 | NSW/61

560 Census Collectors will hit the streets of the Mid North Coast region today to deliver Census forms to each and every house, hotel, resort and houseboat to ensure every person is accurately counted on Census night, Tuesday, 9 August.

Census veteran Annette Phin returns to the Census for an amazing ninth time, this year as an Area Supervisor for West Coffs Harbour with her team of 11 Census Collectors.

Annette started as Area Supervisor in Budgewoi in 1971 and has previously worked in the Sydney, Coffs Harbour and Coramba areas.

"I love working on the Census because I enjoy helping out my community while meeting new people," says Annette.

"There are a lot of new estates with sea changers moving in. We need to capture these changes accurately in the Census so that services can be provided for everyone."

Annette is an active community member who volunteers for Tax Help, a service which assists people with completing their tax return forms.

"I'm also a member of the Coffs Harbour Bible Church and am on the committee of the VIP over 50s group.

"The VIP Group is a club for over fifties. We have antique shows, bus trips and soup and sweet days."

Annette has plenty of her own family to count in the Census, with four generations living locally, including 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

"They all still live in Coffs Harbour. I had 26 people around for Mother's day last year!," Annette adds.
