The ABS provides a wide range of statistics relevant to agricultural industries. The agriculture censuses and surveys collect a wide range of data on area and production of crops, livestock numbers and products and land management. The ABS also collects information relating to livestock slaughterings, wool receivals, wheat grain usage and agriculture related natural resource management practices.
These statistics serve a wide variety of individuals and organisations in both government and private industry. Commonwealth and state governments use the information for planning, budgeting and policy making. Farmer organisations and other producer associations use the data to support submissions to government and to better represent their members. Agriculture service companies also use the ABS data in their planning to better meet the needs of their clients in the farming community.
