How to Find Regional Data in ABS Products
National Regional Profile
Most ABS products contain data for State and Territory regions and there is also a significant amount of data available for Australia's eight capital cities, and for smaller regions across Australia.
The National Regional Profile (NRP), available through the Data by Region navigator, brings together a range of economic and social data for regions covering a five year time period. Below state/territory, data is available for the following regions of the ASGS: Statistical Area Levels 2, 3 and 4; Greater Capital City Statistical Areas; Local Government Areas.
To explore what data is available, head to NRP Data Items A-Z, which is a plain English list of data contained in the NRP.
The Explanatory Notes page includes NRP data items by topic and describes the data available, broken down into Population, Economy, Industry and Environment headings.
Other ABS publications
ABS publications have a tabbed interface as shown below. The tabs are used to group together all information about a product for user convenience. ABS publications open on the Summary tab which contains summary information about the product. There may be some regional data on the Summary page within the main discussion, but most regional data will be found in the Downloads tab. The Downloads tab contains anything that can be downloaded. Regional data found in the Downloads tab will be more detailed and will be in either an Adobe PDF (.pdf), Excel file (.xls) or SuperTABLE (.srd).
If the product does not have the data you are looking for, try looking in the Related Information tab, which contains a list of links to other products with similar statistical data.
When using data from a product you should always access the Explanatory Notes tab for information to help you better understand and make use of the product.
For more information on the tabbed interface go to Help: Using the tabs on the Statistics Product pages.
