 | STATISTICS AND DATA SOURCES
The ABS conducts a number of household surveys that are relevant to those interested in retirement in Australia. The most commonly used estimates of retirement are available in the Retirement and Retirement Intentions Survey.
Retirement and retirement intentions (two-yearly)
The Retirement and Retirement Intentions topic is included in the Multi-Purpose Household Survey and collects information on retirement trends, factors which influence decisions to retire, and income arrangements that retirees and potential retirees have made for their retirement. The data are cross-classified by: age; sex; marital status; country of birth; and labour force characteristics.
Summary results are published in Retirement and Retirement Intentions, Australia (cat. no. 6238.0).
Microdata are available in a Confidentialised Unit Record File (cat. no. 4100.0.55.001).
Survey of Employment Arrangements, Retirement and Superannuation (six-yearly)
The Survey of Employment Arrangements, Retirement and Superannuation collects detailed information about the diversity of employment arrangements in Australia, as well as the characteristics of retirement and the superannuation coverage of individuals. Data can be cross-classified by a number of demographic and labour force characteristics. The survey was most recently conducted in 2007.
Summary results are published in Employment Arrangements, Retirement and Superannuation, Australia (cat. no. 6361.0).
