Service Industries statistics produced by the ABS through its various surveys are used by a wide variety of individuals and organisations in both government and private industry. Commonwealth and State Governments make extensive use of service industries statistics in planning, budgeting, advisory services and policy making. Industry associations and peak bodies access service industries statistics to monitor performance of their industry and assist with government lobbying and analysis. Other users include schools, universities and other educational institutions; individual businesses and the general public.
Service Industry data are also used internally within the ABS. The National Accounts Branch of the ABS uses services industry data to derive a variety of measures such as Gross National Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as well as to supply accurate information to external organisations.
