The Australian Bureau of Statistics provides a wide range of statistics relevant to agricultural industries. The agricultural censuses and surveys collect data on area and production of crops, livestock numbers, livestock products and land management. The ABS Environment and Agriculture section also collects information relating to livestock slaughterings, wool receivals, wheat grain usage and statistics on agriculture related natural resource management practices.
These statistics serve a wide variety of individuals and organisations in both government and private industry. The information is used by commonwealth and state governments for planning, budgeting and policy making. Farmer organisations and other producer associations use the data to support submissions to government and to better represent their members. Agriculture service companies also use ABS data in their planning to better meet the needs of their clients in the farming community. |
