OVERVIEW OF THE MANUFACTURING COLLECTIONS

Information about the manufacturing collections such as the purpose, scope, frequency and outputs.

Economic Activity Survey

The Economic Activity Survey (EAS) is the annual survey that collects information about the operation and financial performance of all businesses in the public trading and private employing sectors of the Australian economy. Administrative by-product data from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is also incorporated with the directly collected survey data, thereby improving the coverage and quality of the data without a corresponding increase in provider load. The results from this collection are published in Australian Industry (cat. No. 8155.0).

For most industry divisions and subdivisions (as specified in the Australian and New Zealand Industrial Classification (ANZSIC), 2006 edition) including Manufacturing, estimates of income; expenses; industry value added; operating profit before tax; capital expenditure; and selected components of these aggregates and derivations are published at the national level. State/territory estimates of income, employment, and wages and salaries, at the division level are also included.

More information about this survey can be found at Directory of Statistical Sources by Topic.

Manufacturing Production Survey

The Manufacturing Production Survey is a monthly survey that collects quantities produced of selected major manufacturing commodities, and various other commodities as required by users, from manufacturing establishments. The collection provides information about the level and movement of manufacturing production across a selection of construction commodities and is used by the private sector to identify areas of growth and market analysis and by some government organisations as a potential indicator of construction activity.

Current collections facilitate monthly production estimates of pre-mixed concrete and plasterboard and production quarterly estimates of clay bricks, roof tiles, portland cement, portland clinkers, concrete bricks, concrete blocks and concrete pavers.
