USING AGEING STATISTICS
Availability
Age is a variable which is included in most ABS population-based surveys as well as being available from a number of administrative datasets that are used in compiling other ABS data. As a result, a wide range of ageing-relevant data is available from the ABS. The 'Ageing Releases' and 'Other related sources of ageing information' pages provide a summary of selected ABS data sources and outputs that are likely to be of general interest to researchers in the field of ageing. In most instances, more detailed unpublished data may also be available on request.
Key Data Sources:
The Census of Population and Housing and ABS demographic data provide benchmark information on population numbers, distribution and characteristics. Other ABS datasets contain ageing-relevant information on issues of interest such as health, disability and carers, the labour force, and economic well-being (income, housing and wealth). For information regarding these and other relevant data refer to the 'Other related sources of ageing information' page.
DIRECTORY OF STATISTICAL SOURCES
The Directory of Statistical Sources provides a useful on-line tool for data users to identify and access reference information about ABS statistical collections. The Directory includes reference material about the collection, such as its purpose, scope and coverage, and summary information about the various data items. It also provides access to current data outputs from each collection.
METHODS, CLASSIFICATIONS, CONCEPTS & STANDARDS
The Methods, Classifications, Concepts & Standards contains information on ABS classifications, concepts, sources, methods and statistical frameworks. |
