The ABS and Foreign Trade Statistics
Foreign trade statistics are important economic statistics which serve a wide variety of needs. They are extensively used in their own right to measure the value and quantity of a country's imports and exports of goods, and they are key inputs to balance of payments and national accounts statistics.
Australia's foreign trade statistics record all goods which enter (imports) or leave (exports) its territory via the customs frontier and for which customs clearances are required.
Australia's foreign trade statistics are compiled in broad agreement with United Nations' (UN) recommendations for the compilation of international merchandise trade statistics.
