The field of children and youth statistics encompasses a diverse population. The ABS produces statistics covering a range of topics relevant to children and youth including family, community, social participation, health, education and work. Statistics play an important role in describing the lives of children and youth and can illuminate problems they experience and some of the factors associated with those problems. For these reasons, statistics are integral to research, policy design and program evaluation, which aim to improve the wellbeing of children and youth.
