Western Australia occupies the western third of the Australian continent, comprising a land area of about 2,529,880 square kilometres.
The administration of the urban and regional areas of this large and diverse state is divided amongst 142 local government authorities; nine development commissions; and a number of state and Australian government departments and organisations.
Although WA has the largest land area of any Australian state or territory, it is home to only just under 10% of Australia's population.
The state capital is Perth, founded on 12 August 1829. The landscape and scenery of WA is incredibly diverse with towering forests, an ocean teeming with marine life and coral reefs, a coastline that is sometimes rugged but often sugar-white, mysterious land formations and ancient gorges, superb food and wine, and lush fields of wildflowers.
This page provides access to WA statistical information, including statistical releases and a statistical newsletter. A wide range of economic and social statistics is covered. |
