1. I have questions about creating an ABS Survey Account
How do I create an ABS Survey Account?
To create your survey account, select 'Create' on the right hand side of the log in page. You will need to provide an email address, a mobile phone number and create a password. You may also optionally provide your name. Next you will be asked to validate your email address by entering a security key that we send to you by email.
I don’t have a mobile phone number.
If you don't have a mobile number you will need to contact us for assistance.
I haven’t received my Security Key email. What do I do?
Please check your spam or junk mail. Although we have taken measures to ensure the ABS Survey Account request emails get through, occasionally they may be blocked. If there is no confirmation email after 10 minutes, you can start the 'Create' process again to ensure all details have been entered correctly.
I’ve forgotten my password!
If you forget your password, you can use the link next to ‘Forgot your password?’ on the log in page to reset it. You will need the email address and mobile phone number you used to create your ABS Survey Account.
Can I change my password?
Yes. You can change your password when you are logged into your account by selecting the ‘Change password’ link at the top of the page.
Can I change my account details?
Yes. When you are logged into your account follow the ‘Account Settings’ link at the top of the page. Here you can modify your login and security details by pressing ‘Edit User Details’.

What is the ABS Survey Account?
The ABS Survey Account is a fast, simple and secure service that allows you to access and submit your survey form online, and upload and download requested data files from the ABS. It also allows businesses and organisations to safely and securely reallocate their survey form to a colleague for completion.
Do I need to create an ABS Survey Account?
Yes. If you have been asked by the ABS to complete a survey online, or provide data files, you can only do so after creating an ABS Survey Account.
Why do you need my mobile phone number?
The mobile phone number you provide allows you to reset your own password via your phone if you forget it. We will not use this mobile phone number to call you without your consent.
Can I add or remove my name from my ABS Survey Account?
Yes, providing your name is optional. You can add or remove your name from your ABS Survey Account at any time. This can be done when you are logged in, and selecting the 'Account Settings' link at the top of the page.
Where can I get more information about my involvement in the survey?
You can find more information about the ABS and ABS surveys on the Survey Participant Information page.
3. I have questions about completing my survey or uploading data
How do I access my survey form or data submission?
Once you have created your ABS Survey Account, you can access your survey form by entering your Form Access Code in the box on the right hand side which says 'Enter your Form Access Code' and clicking 'Add'. We send you your Form Access Code via email or post. You will only need to enter the Form Access Code once.
Once you have done this, your survey will be added to your 'My Surveys' table, and you should click 'Start' to begin your survey. If you wish, you can save and exit your survey form, return to your ABS Survey Account at a later stage and click 'Resume' to resume your survey.
If you have been asked to upload data to the ABS, you will need to enter your Form Access Code as above, and your data submission will appear in your 'My Data Submissions' table. You will need to click 'Start' to begin the data submission process.
Can I complete my surveys in multiple sessions?
Yes. You can log in and out of your ABS Survey Account and use as many sessions as you need to complete your form. If your survey form is incomplete, you will need to click 'Resume' each time to access your survey form.
Can I give someone else access to my survey form?
Yes. You can reallocate survey forms to another person in your business or organisation, if needed. A survey form can only be accessed by one person at a time and there is no limit to how many times it can be reallocated.
After adding your form to your ‘My Surveys’ table, you can reallocate the survey to another person by clicking the 'Delegate' button.
Will my answers be saved if I give someone else access to my survey form?
If you have saved and exited your survey form before you reallocate it to someone else, then yes, all your answers will be saved.
4. I am having issues with my online survey form or submitting my data
I can’t access my survey form or submit my data.
If you are having problems accessing your survey form or submitting data, please try the following:
- Save and close your internet browser. Then, open a new browser window and try logging back in.
- We may be experiencing a high volume of traffic which can sometimes cause issues. Please wait and log back in at a later time
- If you still have problems please contact us so we can assist you.
I’m having problems viewing the survey form.
My Form Access Code says it’s already been claimed.
You are only required to enter your Form Access Code once. After this you can access your survey in the ‘My Surveys’ section, or your data submission, in the 'My Data Submissions' section. If this is the first time you are entering your Form Access Code and you receive a message saying it has already been claimed, please contact us.
How do I know if my completed survey form or data submission has been received?
Once you have completed and submitted your form, the final page will include a confirmation message that you can print or save. The status of the survey should also be viewable by clicking on the 'My survey form history' button.
I’ve submitted my survey form or data but I’ve received a reminder. Why?
If you have received a reminder from the ABS, it could be that it was sent prior to you submitting the form or your data. If this is the case you do not need to take any further action.
- You might like to check if the reminder you have received is for the same survey form or data you submitted. Often ABS surveys run for multiple cycles, or you may be asked to respond to more than one survey at any given time. Or you may be asked to provide data multiple times, or relating to different topics.
- Once you have finished a survey form you need to click 'Submit' on the last page to ensure your data is submitted correctly. You can check this has been done by logging into your ABS Survey Account and checking that your form is in the ‘My survey form history’ section. If the form status is 'In Progress' you can click 'Resume' and ensure the survey form has been correctly submitted.
