1. What do I name my file?

  • For a single data submission the file is required to be named after the 10 digit Survey ID number then the file extension, for example 1234567891.csv. If you are submitting files for the same collection throughout the year and are wondering what to name your subsequent submission, follow the advice below for naming a multi file data submission.
  • For a multi file data submission the file is required to be named after the 10 digit Survey ID number, followed by the submission count and then the file extension, for example 1234567890.1.txt, 1234567890.2.txt. Your submission count is the cumulative count of the number of files a user submits over a specified period. You can see your submission count under ‘Files Submitted’ (e.g. 3/-) so you do not have to keep track of this.
  • The Survey ID can be found in your ABS Survey Account under 'My data submissions'.
  • If the file does not have the correct name it will be received and quarantined for the ABS to process. See 4. How do I know I have successfully submitted my data?

2. What file types can be submitted?

  • The accepted file types are .csv, .xls, .xlsx, .txt, .zip, .gz, .7zip and .tar. If you need to submit files larger than 2GB please contact us.
  • Files within a compressed folder will need to be in an accepted file type and follow the correct naming structure and size restrictions as detailed above.

3. How do I securely upload files and folders?

  • The ABS Survey Account will be your doorway to the Informatica Transfer Portal for secure data upload in most instances.
  • The Account creation process will be detailed in the contact the ABS makes with your business/organisation.
  • For help with the Account creation process you can go to our ABS Survey Account help page.

Once you are logged in, you can follow the steps below to upload your data in the Informatica File Transfer Portal:
  1. Claim your Form Access Code (FAC). You should then see your submission appear in “My data submissions” underneath “My surveys” and “My survey form history”.
  2. If you select 'Start'/'Resume' you will go through to the Informatica File Transfer Portal. Here you will see the 'Secure Folders' or 'More Information' options.
  3. Clicking on Secure Folders will take you to the Inbox and Outbox screen. The Inbox is where you will upload your data files. Clicking on “More Information” will take you to the Survey Participant Information page which is your gateway to information on ABS data collection activity.
      1. In 'Inbox' you can securely transfer files to the ABS.
          1. You can upload a file via navigating or drag and drop or browse.
          2. After a file has been successfully uploaded you will receive a notice at the bottom of the screen.
          3. The file will be removed from your inbox view and sent to the ABS for processing. It may take up to five minutes to process the file, depending on its size.

      2. The ‘outbox’ takes you to the ABS outbox, where the ABS can securely return your files for submission changes.

4. How do I know I have successfully submitted my data?

  • When files upload successfully to the ABS inbox, a notice will appear at the bottom of the Informatica File Transfer Portal screen.
  • After 30 seconds to 5 minutes the file should be removed from your inbox view.

Once you've uploaded your data you can navigate back to your ABS Survey Account via the tabs in your browser (in most instances) and also check the status here.
    1. For single data submission there will be a processing delay depending on the amount of records within the file submitted. The processing time for single data submissions will vary, depending on the number of records in the file. When the file has finished processing successfully the Survey ID will move from the 'My data submissions' list into the 'My survey form history' list. During processing the status within the 'My data submissions' table will remain 'Not Started Yet'.
    2. For a multiple submission, after the first submission has been processed and received the status will update to 'Response Received' and the 'File Submitted' count will reflect the number of files submitted to date. This may appear as the number of files submitted out of the total number expected (e.g. 1/12). Where the total expected count hasn’t been set, the count may appear as an open-ended count (e.g. 1/-). When the final submission is processed and received the Survey ID will move into the 'My survey form history'.

If there were any issues with receiving or processing your data submission you might receive a reminder email. If you are not sure if your submission was successful please contact us.

5. How do I delegate a data submission?

  • You can reallocate a claimed Form Access Code to another person in your business or organisation.
  • A specific data submission can only be accessed by one person at a time. There is no limit to how many times it can be reallocated.
  • After adding your submission to your ‘My data submission’ table, you can reallocate it to another person by clicking the 'Delegate' button.
  • You can still delegate your data submission even if you have started submitting files. Unless your submission is appearing in "My survey form history". In this instance please contact us to discuss your needs.

If you are no longer the appropriate person for submitting data files please contact us.

6. I want to set up a Secure File Transfer Protocol with the ABS

After you have created your ABS Survey Account and claimed your first Form Access Code to submit your data, there may be the option of setting up a Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). If this is something you are interested in please contact us.
