User Group Manager’s Report.

Welcome to the CDATA User Group 'Newspoint' - we hope you find it valuable for keeping up to date with the development of CDATA 2001 and other Census electronic product output

We have now seen an end to the CDATA 2001 product development and output phase. The ABS intends to undertake a major review of the products and services from the 2001 Census as part of an overall review of that census. This will serve as an input to the development of the 2006 Census Dissemination Strategy.

The ABS is now calling for public comment on the proposed 2006 Census Output Strategy via the following document;

Comments can be made online by completing the questionnaire available from the Abs website. www.abs.gov.au > Census.
The Questionnaire must be completed by 15th December.

We encourage CDATA Users & User Group members to be involved in this user consultation process.

All the best in visiting and using the CDATA User Group!

Using CDATA 2001 - Full GIS with MapInfo Professional V7.8.

MapInfo Australia Pty Ltd released MapInfo Professional Version 7.8 in September 2004.
Details on the functionality of MapInfo Professional V7.8 can be obtained from the MapInfo website, www.mapinfo.com

The ABS have undertaken software compliance testing of CDATA 2001 with MapInfo Professional Version 7.8 on the Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows XP platforms. CDATA 2001 works well with the new version, and there were no major operating conflicts identified through product testing.

Disclaimer: Only major software functions were tested (Reports, Thematic Maps, Dataviews, Graphs etc). As all software functions cannot be tested, support will be limited to offering CDATA 2001 - Full GIS users ' work around' solutions to any problems that are directly related to the use of CDATA 2001 - Full GIS with future versions of MapInfo Professional.

If you decide to upgrade your copy of MapInfo Professional, please contact your local MapInfo representative or MapInfo partner for further assistance.

CDATA 2001 Full GIS Clients who decide to upgrade to MapInfo Professional Version 7.8 will also need to contact the Census Technical Helpline on 1800 676 646, to obtain a new CDATA 2001 installer, as the current CDATA 2001 installer searches for a installed copy of MapInfo Version 7.0.
