In April 2005, the ABS put forward for public consultation, a Proposal to enhance the value of the Population Census by developing a longitudinal view. This would provide a significant statistical resource to improve the quality of research, policy development and community decisions.
An independent Privacy Impact Assessment of the Proposal was released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in June 2005. The Assessment, the ABS' response to the Assessment and submissions to the proposal lodged by the Australian community are publicly available (see below).
