Product Description

CDATA 2001 is a CD-ROM product which provides a large volume of Census small area data (from Collection District level) combined with digital geographic boundaries and location based data. The CDATA 2001 products have been developed jointly by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and MapInfo Australia. CDATA 2001 combines the most recent and comprehensive information on Australian society from the 2001 Census, with the powerful mapping software from MapInfo.

CDATA 2001 provides instant access to valuable information - the latest figures on Australian society - age, education, housing, income, transport, religion, ethnicity, occupation, computer usage and more, from a single Collection District to an entire State/Territory or total Australia.

New for the 2001 Census, users now have the choice of two CDATA 2001 product options which offer different levels of functionality and flexible pricing. Both product options can be purchased for the whole of Australia, or for a particular State or Territory. The content, functionality and pricing of these two product options are described in the product briefs below;

Census Table Specification Service (CTSS) - Product Brief

Product Description

In response to user demand for a facility to aid customised table requests, the Census Table Specification Service (CTSS) has been developed to allow users to design their own customised tables at times convenient to users. These tables are generated using existing SuperTABLE software. The service is restricted to the manipulation of data descriptions in table shells and is not intended to generate data values on-line. Note: clients will only be able to save table shells in .TXD format for emailing to the ABS. Returned files may be exported in any available SuperTABLE format.

The CTSS software can be downloaded to users' desktops from the CTSS CD-ROM, which is available through emailing census2001@abs.gov.au with postal address details. Availability of the web download software for CTSS has been delayed temporarily and will not be available until early 2002.

The CTSS software can be downloaded to users' desktops from the Census Guide CD-ROM or the software provides functionality, which includes an indicative costing facility that is updated as specifications are developed or changed. Table specifications can then be forwarded to the ABS via an email attachment for inserting data values in the table shell and validating results. Users will be asked to confirm the final specifications and will be advised of final costs before the tables are run.

Unfortunately the CTSS software included on 'The Census Guide - Final has a license key in it to not work after 2003.

If Clients wish to continue access the 'ABS Census Table Specification Service' software, they will need to be sent the 'ABS Census Table Specification Service - Revision 1.0 CD-ROM'.

This CD-ROM allows the user to install the ABS Census Table Specification Service. This installation will contain a valid license key for use up until 19/1/2007.

Users can request the ABS Census Table Specification Service - Revision 1.0 CD-ROM, by calling the Census Technical Helpline to obtain the Registration Number on 1800 676 646.

Or

By sending an email to census.software@abs.gov.au and type 'ABS Census Table Specification Service - Revision 1.0 on CD-ROM request' in the subject field. Please also include the following details:

Name
Organisation
Postal Address (including State & Postcode)
Contact telephone number

Requests for customised tables could be submitted early through the Advance Order Service (AOS). AOS orders are priority processed, giving clients more timely access to their customised tables, which can be delivered soon after the official release of data. The AOS operated from 3 September to 21 December 2001.

The CTSS was first released in early September 2001. Second release became available in December 2001. Further versions will be released progressively.

Update to NSW Postal Area Digital Boundaries

A minor error in the digital boundary mid/mif files supplied for NSW Postal Areas has been detected and the following replacement file has been created.

The postal areas of 2540, 2406 and 2620 had been omitted in the original postal area file for NSW and the attached replacement file contains corrected digital boundary data. This file is only required for use with Mapping software. If the information has been exported to a mapping program, the attached file is a replacement and amends the boundaries. All data supplied with Census Basics is correct and does not need to be modified.

The attached zip file contains the mid/mif replacement files for the Final Release of Census Basics NSW Postal Areas.

NSWPOAMap.zip

(11,882 Kb)

Instructions to replace the WinZip file.

(This requires the mid/mif files to be installed on your network or hard drive as replacement CD-ROM's are not available)

Save the NSWPOAMap.zip file to your hard drive. Go to <:drive>Census2001 data\poa\map\nsw. Replace the NSWPOAMap.zip file dated 24/10/02 with the one supplied here. Alternatively, if you have already exported these files to your hard drive or network drive, then you will need to extract the following two files (names shown below) and replace them:

          POA01a1.mif
          POA01a1.mid
These mid/mif files only affect the digital boundaries and do not affect the data supplied with Census Basics, if you are not using any mapping software to create thematic maps of your data, then there is no necessity to replace the files.

For clients using CDATA 2001, please see the CDATA User Group section of the CDATA 2001 web page
