Use Random Sampler Procedure
To go directly to the Random Sampler facility on the website go to the following URL:

Access the Random Sampler
1. Go to the Australian Bureau of Statistics homepage – http://www.abs.gov.au
2. Locate the CensusAtSchool banner image in the right hand column of the page and click it to access the CensusAtSchool Main Page.
3. From the left hand menu, click the ‘Student Area’ item to access the Student Area front page.
4. Again, from the left hand menu, click the ‘Random Sampler’ item to access the first page of the random sample process.
Complete the Random Sample Process
5. Click the Student Area menu item to go to the Student Area main page. Then, click the ‘Random Sampler’ menu item to access the Random Sampler access page.
6. Read the instructions on the page and click the accept button to proceed to the Random Sampler page.
7. Complete the form
Sample Size
Enter the number of records you would like your data sample to contain. This can be between 10 and 200.
Sample characteristics
User can choose to select data samples based on the following characteristics;
· Gender
· Postcode range
· Year level
· Dominant hand
· Size of school
8. Click the ‘Get Data Sample’ button to process your request and proceed to the download sample page.
9. Once the request has been processed your data file will be available for download via a link at the bottom of the page.
10. To download the data sample click the right mouse button whilst holding the pointer over the file name. From the menu, select ‘Save Target As’, enter the location where you would like to save the file and click save. The file will be downloaded and saved to your specified location. |
