AVAILABILITY

Data releases
The ABS collects administrative data on numbers and characteristics of registered motor vehicles in Australia as well as the number of new motor vehicles sold each month. This data is available through the Motor Vehicle Census and Sales of New Motor Vehicles publications.

To provide further information on vehicle usage, the ABS runs the Survey of Motor Vehicle Use. The Freight Movements survey, last released in 2001, provides more detailed data on freight transported by road, rail, sea and air.

DATA LIMITATIONS

Quality Declarations and Assessment
ABS Quality Declarations are released with ABS publications and help individuals, the community and government to make informed decisions. Quality declarations complement, but do not replace, technical notes, explanatory notes, footnotes and appendices. By using the data quality framework, the quality declaration ensures users of ABS statistics are well informed of the quality of the data and can assess whether the statistics meet their needs and are fit for purpose.

Quality Declaration Summaries are available under the Explanatory Notes for the Survey of Motor Vehicle Use and Sales of New Motor Vehicles.
