ABOUT THIS RELEASE

The ABS has consulted widely during the course of the Consumer Price Index review, invited public submissions and conducted seminars in each capital city. An Advisory Group, representing major users of the CPI, assisted in coordinating views on the CPI.Outlines decisions reached by the ABS in undertaking the latest in a series of periodic reviews of the CPI. Major issues for the review included the principal purpose of the CPI, frequency of compilation, population coverage and commodity classification and item coverage which were discussed in 6451.0.
