JUNE KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES

  • Trend estimates: The June 2015 trend estimate (96 026) has increased by 0.4% when compared with May 2015.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: The June 2015 seasonally adjusted estimate (97 620) has increased by 3.8% when compared with May 2015.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend estimates: When comparing national trend estimates for June 2015 with May 2015, sales of Passenger and Sports utility vehicles increased by 0.4% and 0.6% respectively. Over the same period, Other vehicles decreased by 0.1%.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for June 2015 with May 2015, all vehicle types recorded an increase in sales. Sales for Passenger and Sports utility vehicles increased by 5.4% and 3.3% respectively while Other vehicles increased by 1.1%.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend estimates: Five of the eight states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing June 2015 with May 2015. New South Wales recorded the largest percentage increase (1.1%), followed by Queensland (0.4%) and both Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory (0.2%). Over the same period, South Australia recorded the largest decrease in sales (0.5%).
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: Seven of the eight states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing June 2015 with May 2015. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage increase (6.5%) followed by Queensland (5.5%) and the Australian Capital Territory (5.2%). Over the same period, the Northern Territory was the only jurisdiction to record a decrease (6.2%).
