Tasmanians More Likely To Work Part-Time Tasmanian regions had some of the highest rates of people working part-time in the country, according to a report released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The proportion of employed people aged 15 years and over who worked 35 hours or less in the week prior to the census was 40% in the Southern Tasmania (Statistical Division, or SD) and 38% in the Greater Hobart (SD), compared with 33% for Australia as a whole. The report used results from the 2001 Census of Population and Housing to describe the major differences in the socio-demographic characteristics of people living in different parts of Australia. Media Note: The report was based on ABS geographical areas called Statistical Divisions (SDs). However, to give more evenly sized regions, SDs in populous areas have generally been disaggregated to Statistical Sub-Divisions (SSDs) or Statistical Region Sectors (SRSs).
