Secrets of ABS statistics released on CD-ROM The concepts and standards used in the compilation of Australia's national statistics were released publicly today on CD-ROM. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) launched the Statistical Concepts Library, a comprehensive reference describing the concepts, sources and methods used to gather and process Australia's major economic and social statistics. The CD-ROM provides background information that will assist users in analysing and interpreting ABS statistics. The library includes complete background on the standard classifications used by the ABS, such as Industry, Occupation, Commodity, Country, Languages, Labour Force and social classifications. It also includes a number of major international statistical standards, including the 1993 edition of the System of National Accounts, and the 5th edition of the IMF's Balance of Payments Manual.
