New Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence Statistics Directory
For the first time, sources of family, domestic and sexual violence statistics have been collated into a central directory by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The new 'Directory of Family, Domestic, and Sexual Violence Statistics' aims to improve the awareness and utilisation of family, domestic, and sexual violence statistics by providing an integrated repository of national and state and territory data sources.
Director of the ABS’ National Centre for Crime and Justice Statistics, William Milne, said the new directory would assist researchers, policy analysts, and health and support professionals to better understand the range of available family, domestic, and sexual violence statistics by describing the core details about each statistical collection included.
"The previous edition of the directory was published in 2013, and it’s now been comprehensively updated and expanded to include sources of sexual violence statistics to better meet emerging data needs," Mr Milne said.
"It also contains information about key organisations and agencies that publish family, domestic, and sexual violence statistics, including those that publish statistics about support services provided and family and domestic homicide."
The directory is funded by the Department of Social Services as part of the Australian Government’s National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children 2010-2022.
