Revisions to labour force estimates
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released revised employment and unemployment statistics. The revisions follow the annual reanalysis of seasonal factors undertaken by the ABS and affects seasonally adjusted and trend labour force estimates from February 1978 to January 2000. The reanalysis of seasonal factors incorporates the most recent 12 months of labour force data.
The following table shows the previously published and the revised seasonally adjusted estimates of employed persons and the unemployment rate for the period January 1999 to January 2000.
The ABS will publish revised data in Labour Force, Australia, Preliminary (cat. no. 6202.0) to be released on 9 March 2000, and in Labour Force, Australia (Catalogue No. 6203.0) to be released on 31 March 2000. Revised data to January 2000 are now available on the ABS's electronic data service PC-Ausstats. These estimates, and seasonal factors to January 2001, are also available as a special data service on request from the statistical contact listed below.
