Launch of 2001 Census social atlas series - Hobart

The 2001 Census Social Atlas series will officially be launched in Perth on Monday, October 28, 2002 by Senator the Hon. Ian Campbell, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer.

The Social Atlas for Hobart will also be released at this time.

Hobart's atlas presents colour maps of the key social, demographic and economic characteristics of the capital city at the time of the 2001 Census. The maps are easy to interpret and are accompanied by a brief commentary explaining main features. It provides a primary source of information used by a wide range of government and non-government organisations alike in planning for the future.

The Hobart social atlas features maps on topics such as population, ethnicity, education, families, income, labour force and dwellings.

Vision opportunities: Coverage of the Perth event and interviews with the Senator and the Australian Statistician, Dennis Trewin. Television networks requiring broadcast quality coverage and interviews in Perth may need to arrange this through their Perth affiliates.

Media information: A comprehensive information kit containing a publication and CD ROM version of the Hobart atlas will be available. The CD ROM is of print and broadcast quality.

The Tasmanian Regional Director of the ABS, Steve Matheson, will be available for interviews on the atlas after its release.
