November 19 release of 2001 census data completes snapshot of Australia

To complete the snapshot of Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will make available the full range of 2001 Census data for every community in Australia on Tuesday 19 November at 11.30am (AEDT).

Social, housing and income data was released in June this year. The Basic Community Profiles, Census Snapshots and Indigenous Profiles available on November 19 will include the June figures, as well as data on qualifications and economic activity of the population, like industry of employment and occupations.

The Basic Community Profiles will provide detailed data of communities from the 2001 Census. The Census Snapshots provide an outline picture for every local community and how the community has changed over the last ten years.

Information for every statistical local area in Australia will be available free of charge on this site after 11.30am (AEDT) on Tuesday 19 November.

The 2001 Census of Population and Housing was held on Tuesday 7 August last year and the results provide a comprehensive snapshot of Australia. Census data is a primary source of information used by a wide range of government and non-government organisations in planning for the future.

Media information: After 11.30am (AEDT) on Tuesday 19 November, all metropolitan, regional and suburban media will have access to their local information (at statistical local area) via this site.
