New animation to show Victorian local population trends

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has produced an exciting new way to see the population history for Victoria and the state's local government areas.

The Population Pyramid is an animated graphic that provides a visual demonstration of the change over time in the age and sex population distribution for areas in Victoria, based on where people live.

It is a useful tool that displays the recent history (from 1986 to 2009) of Victoria's population at June 30 each year.

The following link on the ABS website will take you to the Population Pyramid where users can select Victoria or any of the state's local government areas:
https://www.abs.gov.au/websitedbs/D3310114.nsf/home/Victorian+Local+Government+Area+Population+Pyramid

Once you're on the population pyramid page, select an area of interest from the drop down menu and click the play button to the bottom right of the pyramid to see the animation.

For further information see State and Regional Indicators, Victoria, September 2010 (cat. no. 1367.2), available on the ABS website.
