DESCRIPTION

The Survey of Attendance at Selected Culture and Leisure Venues collects data on attendances at a range of cultural venues and performances. The object of the survey is to identify demographic details of people attending the venues and the number of times they attend. The results assist in the assessment and development of cultural policies.

In 1991, 1995 and 1999 this survey was a supplement to the Labour Force Survey. A repeat of the survey in 2002 used the General Social Survey as the collection vehicle. It is planned that the next survey will be part of the 2005/06 Multi Purpose Household Survey (MPHS).

Historical Data

The Survey of Attendance at Selected Cultural Venues was run as a supplement to the Labour Force Survey in 1991, 1995 and 1999.
In the 1999 survey, most of the interviews were conducted by telephone, whereas in the 1995 survey, all of the interviews were conducted face-to-face. This change in methodology necessitated some wording changes to the questions in the 1999 survey as prompt cards could not be used. This may also have had a slight impact on the results.
The 2002 General Social Survey was conducted via Computer Assisted Personal Interview.
