  • Sales and service income in the Mining industry increased by 7.0% (or $14.3b) to $217.8b between 2012-13 and 2013-14.
  • Metal ore mining increased by 16.1% to $108.2b.
  • Coal mining decreased by 2.7% to $47.7b.
  • Oil and gas extraction also decreased by 3.1% to $38.4b over the same period.

  • Industry value added (IVA) increased by 10.6% ($11.9b) to $124.5b for the Mining industry between 2012-13 to 2013-14.
  • IVA for Metal ore mining increased by 21.7% ($12.5b) to $70.0b.
  • Coal mining IVA fell by 5.1% ($854m) to $16.0b.
  • Oil and gas extraction IVA fell by 1.2% ($332m) to $28.4b.

  • Employment in the Mining industry decreased by 2.2% (4,170 people) between June 2013 and June 2014, to 186,920 people at June 2014.
  • Employment in Oil and Gas Extraction rose by 18.3% (3,471 people) and Coal Mining also had a small increase of 0.5% (236 people)
  • Other Mining sectors saw a fall in employment, with Metal ore mining decreasing by 2.7%, Non-metallic mineral mining and quarrying decreasing by 4.0% and Exploration and other mining support services by 11.4%.
