APRIL KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during April 2009 (477,300 movements), rose 0.8% compared with March 2009 (473,600 movements). This followed monthly increases of 1.1% for February 2009 and 1.0% for March 2009.
  • Currently, trend estimates for arrivals are 1.7% higher than in April 2008.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2009, arrivals (478,700 movements) increased by 0.9% compared with March 2009 (474,300 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 6.0% for February 2009 and a monthly decrease of 0.8% for March 2009.
  • Original estimates: There were 455,600 arrivals to Australia in April 2009.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during April 2009 (483,000 movements), recorded an increase of 0.5% compared with March 2009 (480,700 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.2% for February 2009 and 0.4% for March 2009.
  • Currently, trend estimates for departures are marginally higher than in April 2008.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During April 2009, departures (508,400 movements) increased by 9.0% compared with March 2009 (466,300 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 3.3% for February 2009 and a monthly decrease of 2.2% for March 2009.
  • Original estimates: There were 503,900 departures from Australia during April 2009.
