APRIL KEY POINTS


AUSTRALIAN WINE DOMESTIC SALES

DOMESTIC WINE SALES
  • The trend estimate for domestic sales of Australian produced wine was 35.4 million litres in April 2009, a decrease of 0.5% from March 2009 and up 1.1% on April 2008.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate was 34.2 million litres this month, down 4.3% from March 2009 and up 0.7% on April last year.


WHITE TABLE WINE
  • The trend estimate for domestic sales of Australian produced white wine was 16.7 million litres this month, 1.2% lower than last month and was 1.9% lower than April 2008.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate was 15.9 million litres in April 2009, down 5.0% from March 2009 and 5.7% lower than April 2008.


RED/ROSÉ TABLE WINE
  • The trend estimate for domestic sales of Australian produced red and rosé wine rose by 0.1% to 13.1 million litres this month and was up 2.1% on the same month last year.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate was 12.8 million litres in April 2009, a decrease of 4.3% on March 2009 but was 1.9% higher than April 2008.


AUSTRALIAN WINE EXPORTS
  • Exports of Australian produced wine decreased by 14.3% this month to 59 million litres. The value of the exported wine in April 2009 was $175.9 million, a decrease of 16.2% from last month. Australia exported 730.1 million litres, with a total value of $2.5 billion in the twelve months ending April 2009. There was no change in volume but a decrease of 11.2% in value over the corresponding period to April 2008.
