NOTES

ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION

This publication contains final estimates for the main commodities collected in the 2006-07 Agricultural Survey. Included are detailed statistics on crop and horticulture area and production, livestock and livestock products, land use and industry and size characteristics of agricultural businesses. The data are based on a response rate of 89% from a sample of 36,000 agricultural businesses selected for the 2006-07 Agricultural Survey.

The ABS also plans to release a range of sub-state geographic level data in conjunction with this publication. In particular, Statistical Division (SD) and Natural Resource Management region data will be released in Agricultural Commodities: Small Area Data, Australia (cat. no. 7125.0). The sub-state outputs will generally be available as spreadsheets.

In 2005-06, the ABS moved to a new frame sourced from the Australian Taxation Office's Australian Business Register (ABR). In addition to the change in frame, there have been changes in methodologies used for determining whether agricultural businesses are 'in scope' of the collection and in some of the ways the data are compiled. The key implication of this strategy is that data from 2005-06 is not exactly comparable with earlier data. (Note: detailed information on the impact of the change in the time series was published with the 2005-06 estimates and should be referred to if users want more information about this).

The estimates in this publication are based on the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industial Classification (ANZSIC) 2006 edition, which was adopted for the first time in 2005-06.
