This publication contains estimates of the quantity of grain stored in grain storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders in Australia as at 30 June 2004.


KEY POINTS

The total quantity of grain held in storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders at 30 June 2004 was 16,678,000 tonnes, a 34% reduction on the revised 31 March 2004 level of 25,171,100 tonnes, but still nearly double the stocks held at 30 June 2003.

Over the three month period to 30 June 2004, wheat stocks declined 35%, from 16,613,000 tonnes to 10,715,500 tonnes. Barley stocks also declined by 33% from 6,142,000 tonnes to 4,111,400 tonnes. The quantity of oats stocks fell by 27% to 174,400 tonnes in the three months to 30 June 2004.
