SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for September 2016:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased by 3% in September 2016 compared with August 2016 and was down by 179,558 head or 25% year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter in September 2016 decreased by 4,658 head or 1% compared with August 2016 and was down 177,349 head or 24% year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughters decreased by 27,660 head or 2% month-on-month for September 2016. Compared with September 2015, slaughters decreased by 160,360 head or 8%.
  • Pig slaughter for September 2016 remained similar to August 2016, increasing by 88 head. September 2016 slaughter increased by 18,959 or 5% year on year.
