AGE-SPECIFIC DIVORCE RATES

Age-specific divorce rates provide a detailed picture of the ages at which people are granted a divorce. These rates give an indication of the proportion of all males or females in a particular age group granted a divorce per 1,000 estimated resident population of the same age group. More information on the calculation of age-specific divorce rates is provided in the Glossary and Explanatory Notes 34-36 and 46.

In 2010, age-specific divorce rates for males were highest in the 40-44 years age group, with 10.7 divorces per 1,000 population. For females the 35-39 years age group reported the highest age-specific divorce rate in 2010 (11.0 divorces per 1,000 population).

The age-specific divorce rate for females aged 35-39 is also the highest reported in 2010 for either sex.
