WHEAT GRAIN COMMITTED

In January 2011, wheat grain committed for domestic use or export increased to 7.1 million tonnes, a 10% increase from December 2010 and an increase of 43% from January 2010.

Of the total wheat grain committed, 5.5 million tonnes were contracted for export. In January 2011, all states reported increased export commitments from December 2010. South Australia showed the largest increase with 500 thousand tonnes (51%), up to 1.5 million tonnes.

Compared to December 2010, wheat grain committed for domestic use rose by 1% to 1.6 million tonnes in January 2011. This almost matches the comparative total of 1.7 million tonnes from January 2010.
