A monthly compendium of economic statistics, presenting comprehensive tables, graphs, commentaries, feature articles and technical notes. Primarily a reference document, the publication provides a broad basis for analysis and research on the Australian economy and includes statistics that can be applied to both macro-economic and sectoral analyses. The publication contains statistics under the following headings: national accounts, international accounts, consumption and investment, production, prices, labour force and demography, incomes and labour costs, financial markets, state comparisons and international comparisons.

Government Finance Statistics, Australia, 2008-09 (cat. no. 5512.0) was released on 22 June 2010.

There have been changes to the content which have affected the data which has subsequently been updated and replaced.

This publication presents government finance statistics (GFS) on an accrual accounting basis for each jurisdiction for general government, public non-financial corporations, the non-financial public sector, public financial corporations and the total public sector as follows:

  • Operating statements;
  • Cash flow statements; and
  • Balance sheets.

Time series of these data are available on the ABS web site for the periods 1999-2000 to 2008-09.

Some data for Queensland:
  • In the 2008-09 period, the Queensland State Government spent $9,248 million on Health, $8,197 million on Education and $4,643 million on Transport and communications.

International Merchandise Imports, Australia, May 2010 (cat. no. 5439.0) was released on 21 June 2010.

This publication presents the total imports (international trade basis) for the reference month and the two previous months, together with commodity aggregates at the one-digit level of the Standard International Trade Classification.

Some data for Queensland:
  • In May 2010 the total customs value for International merchandise imports was $2,711 million.
  • In May 2010 the customs value for International merchandise imports from Japan was $306 million, from China $299 million and from the USA $255 million.
