MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY SURVEY

The ACLC Industry Classification includes the classes 341 Sports and physical recreation goods manufacturing and 481 Other culture and leisure goods manufacturing. It would be ideal for data to be separately available for both classes, however, the Manufacturing Industry Survey used the 1993 Australian and New Zealand Standard Industry Classification (ANZSIC) to classify industry. The only ANZSIC class which corresponds closely in scope to ACLC classes 341 and 481 is 2942 Toy and sporting good manufacturing. The scope of this ANZSIC class is wholly contained within, but much narrower than the combined scope of the two ACLC classes.

In 2005-06, the total income of Toy and sporting good manufacturers was $524.0m. This figure increased by $36.5m (7.5%) from 2004-05. Total expenses came to $492.6m. Of this figure, 18.4% ($90.5m) was spent on labour costs. The contribution of wages and salaries to labour costs was $77.8m (86.0%). The operating profit before tax was $36.1m and the operating profit margin was 6.9%.

At the end of June 2006, there were 2,979 persons employed by toy and sporting good manufacturers.
