This group covers R&D directed towards mining and extracting minerals, other than energy mineral resources. It includes precious and semi-precious stones and mineral sands.
This group has nine objectives:

840202 Mining and Extraction of Copper Ores
840203 Mining and Extraction of Diamonds
840204 Mining and Extraction of Iron Ores
840205 Mining and Extraction of Precious (Noble) Metal Ores
840206 Mining and Extraction of Stone and Clay
840207 Mining and Extraction of Titanium Minerals, Zircon, and Rare Earth Metal Ores (e.g. Monazite)
840208 Mining and Extraction of Zinc Ores
840299 Primary Mining and Extraction of Mineral Resources not elsewhere classified

Exclusions:
a) Mining and extraction of energy mineral resources are included in Group 8502 Mining and Extraction of Energy Resources.
b) Air quality; control of pests, diseases and exotic species; ecosystem assessment and management; flora, fauna and biodiversity; land and water management; rehabilitation of degraded areas; remnant vegetation and conservation areas; soils; and natural hazards in mining environments are included in Division 96 Environment.
