TREND
  • The trend estimates of the total and non-residential value of building commenced have not been adjusted for BER and should be used with caution.
  • The trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced rose 6.2% in the September quarter 2009 but is still lower than September 2008.
  • The value of new residential building commenced rose 0.6%. New house commencements rose 2.4% and new other residential commencements fell 3.5%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings fell 1.7%. The value of non-residential building commenced rose by 12.4%.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the September quarter rose 30.5% following a fall of 8.0% in June.
  • Commencements of new residential buildings rose 5.8% to $7,827.5m. New house commencements rose 3.6%, to $5,807.1m, and new other residential building rose 12.6% to $2,020.4m. Alterations and additions fell 1.3% to $1,422.8m. Non-residential work commenced rose 71.3%, to $9,614.3m.
