TREND
  • The trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced fell 1.8% in the June quarter 2008.
  • The value of new residential building commenced fell 0.7%. New house commencements rose 0.8% and new other residential commencements fell 4.0%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings fell 3.3%. The value of non-residential building fell by 2.7%.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the June quarter fell 8.5% following a rise of 0.9% in March.
  • Commencements of new residential buildings fell 5.7%, to $8,682.8m. New house commencements rose 1.0%, to $6,299.1m, while new other residential building fell 19.9%, to $2,383.7m. Alterations and additions fell 4.1%, to $1,479.9m. Non-residential work commenced fell 12.6%, to $6,785.9m.
