LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERS AND OTHER DISPOSALS
  • The gross value of livestock slaughtering and other disposals remained fairly stable at $13.6 billion, with decreases in the values of sheep and lambs partially offsetting the slight increases in the value of other livestock.
  • The gross value of sheep and lambs fell by 6% to $2.7 billion in 2011-12. The number of sheep and lambs slaughtered rose by 4%, but were countered by a 10% fall in average prices.

In Queensland the value of cattle and calves rose 2% to $3.5 billion, in Victoria the value fell by 2% to $1.3 billion, and there was no change in the gross value of cattle and calves in New South Wales, remaining at $1.6 billion.

LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS
  • The gross value of livestock products decreased by 2% to $7.0 billion in 2011-12, driven largely by a 9% fall in the gross value of wool. This decrease was only partly offset by a small increase in the value of whole milk and eggs.
